Who we are

There’s no reason that you can’t get to know us a bit better, even if you’re not on our route! Check out our profiles below.

Matthieu Hallé from Victoria

Songwriter, musician, photographer, director, and critical thinker. Unique skill: filmmaker.

Why?

I couldn’t pass off an opportunity like this. It’s going to be quite extraordinary to have a group of cyclists all together for the same cause. There’s something really beautiful and human about it.

What?

It’s kind of like migrating birds. People will see us and remember the remarkable goals humans can achieve.

How?

I have no problem with long distance cycling or living with just the basics. That’s the easy part. It’s learning about the complex issues of child soldiers and the solutions that might take my entire life to understand.

Jamie Macdonald from Ottawa

High school student and musician. Unique skill: spontaneous musical creation.

Why?

I am 18 years old. The last 6 years of my life have been blessed with musical education, a safe home, warm bed, good food. The average age of abductees into the LRA is 12. 77% had witnessed others being killed, 39% had killed another person, 39% had abducted other children, and one third of female abductees had been raped.

What?

A wake up call. Only awareness on a grand scale of such atrocities, and willingness to change them, can make any effect on the issue. No one person can make this difference; this is a call for global consciousness.

How?

With determination, preparation, and the country watching us, we will ride for the rights of these individuals.

Philip Schleihauf from Ottawa

Philip Schleihauf

Watch Phil's Profile Video

Digital content doctor on a unicycle. Unique skill: IT ninja.

Why:

For one month of my summer I want to feel like I am doing something worthwhile. Learning more about this issue has shown me how good I had it as a kid. I want that opportunity to be universal.

What?

This tour is about people: reaching out to people, engaging people, and, hopefully, helping people.

How?

Directly, by pedaling my 36″ big-wheel unicycle every day. More completely, with the incredible support of my family and friends, with the encouragement and experiences from the journey, and with 250,000 unheard kids on my mind.

Sandy Macdonald from Ottawa

Mastermind. Unique skill: guitar playing and singing.

Why

Not just for fun - it will be really changing and uplifiting to do something like this.

What?

I think this will change peoples' looks.

How?

You're never too young to make a change in the world.

Benjamin Gunn-Doerge from Ottawa

Socially minded high school athlete. Unique skill: freestyling.

Why

Your life is determined by the chances you take and the challenges you choose to face. Without ordinary people taking risks there would be no progress and change. The greatest thing about the possibility of change is that it is in our own hands!

What?

Every child deserves the childhood I had.

How?

In solidarity with the children in Uganda, I will be able to push through all obstacles.
